We have a beautiful story to share with you about one of our valued staff, Sandy Check. Sandy moved here 2 years ago with her husband but soon after their move, her husband became very ill and was moved to the hospital. Sadly, 7-8 months later he passed away.
Sandy had always loved birds and started looking online to adopt one for a companion when she came across the FEBS website. She found it was close to her home, within 10min, and decided to volunteer. She learned a lot at FEBS and decided not to get a parrot due to their lifespan but became very close with the birds at the Sanctuary. She started volunteering twice a week feeding and cleaning the aviaries. Soon she was working full time Monday through Friday and is now Pat’s Office Assistant and helps coordinate the volunteers. Sandy says her time at the Sanctuary has helped her through her husband’s passing and given her a new family. 750 parrots and a few people too! Sandy is now hooked on the birds and her granddaughter Jadyn loves to see the birds when she is down to visit. She can’t imagine not being around the birds and loves walking through the aviaries and interacting with all the birds. She has a special affinity for Baby, pictured here showing Sandy some love. Sandy, we are glad you stumbled across us and proud to call you family.
