Have you ever wondered how our birds are doing in the Florida summer heat? This summer seems to be exceptionally warm.
Although parrots are indigenous to tropical climates, measures are still needed to provide adequate shade and water supply during these hot months.
In order to keep the birds cool we have installed multiple shade cloth units over every aviary that incorporate automatic misting systems for the hottest parts of the day. The water dishes are changed multiple times daily and our staff and volunteers always have misting bottles on hand while feeding birds for those feathered residents especially fond of bath time.
We have noticed a huge improvement in feather condition due to a combination of Florida’s afternoon rain storms and the care taken at the Sanctuary.
Now if we could just figure out how to cool the staff LOL.
